Budapest – Best “workcation” destination 2024

FM newsroom – remote working, Budapest. The Hungarian capital leads the global list of the best hybrid or remote working places. The cities were scored based on ten criteria: climate, transportation, general cost of living, and broadband internet speed. Budapest is outstanding in several ways.

Budapest has been named the world’s best “workcation” city in the International Workplace Group’s second “Work from Anywhere Barometer”, beating cities such as New York, Berlin and Singapore, VG.hu reports.

‘Work from anywhere’ is a decisive factor

The term “workcation” refers to an activity whereby travellers combine work and leisure activities to extend their holiday.

Its popularity is growing, especially since hybrid work has become the actual work model for many. Thanks to the spread of hybrid working and cloud technology, employees can now work from wherever they are most productive. More than four out of five hybrid workers have already extended their leave or are considering it to work remotely from a destination of their choice.

New research by International Workplace Group, the largest provider of hybrid work solutions, shows that workcation is becoming increasingly popular among office workers. Three-quarters of workplaces and employees consider the ‘work from anywhere’ option a significant factor when choosing a new job.

Budapest is the best

The Work from Anywhere Barometer survey assessed cities across several categories based on ten key criteria: climate, culture, accommodation, transport, food and drink choice, living standards, broadband internet speeds, sustainability, and access to flexible workspaces.

Budapest, the Hungarian capital, was ranked the most popular destination for hybrid workers in 2024 based on transport and accommodation prices, broadband internet, and access to flexible workspaces.

The city attracts around 12 million foreign tourists a year. With more than 200 museums and galleries, vibrant neighbourhoods, and large green spaces, it is an ideal choice for digital nomads seeking work-life balance.
