FM newsroom – ESG, CSR. The practical implementation of sustainability and social responsibility was the main focus of the Portfolio Sustainable World 2025 conference, where experts presented how ESG and CSR principles are becoming tangible in corporate operations, with particular attention to blue-collar workers.
ESG: From Reports to Real Impact
The practical application of ESG poses increasingly complex challenges for companies. While the most prominent corporations had already published their reports in line with CSRD requirements in 2025, the speakers of the ESG and reporting section of the Portfolio Sustainable World 2025 conference focused on the everyday implementation of sustainability principles, according to Portfolio’s report.
Building Empathy Across the Workplace
László Nagy, HR Director of B+N Referencia Zrt., presented an innovative initiative. At the facility management company, where 90–93% of employees are blue-collar workers, often with lower education, office staff are given the opportunity to spend a day working in a physical job.
The program aims to strengthen understanding between different employee groups, and it has gained popularity not only in Hungary but also at the company’s foreign subsidiaries. In the future, they plan to expand the initiative so that blue-collar workers can also gain insight into office work.
“It had greater value than inviting an external speaker to raise awareness,” evaluated László Nagy.
From Material Aid to Financial Awareness
Beyond this, B+N’s social responsibility extends to cooperation with the Apponyi Franciska Jövőműhely and the Maltese Charity Service, as well as supporting local initiatives. The company’s own foundation primarily provides material assistance, while also emphasising the development of financial awareness and support for access to rehabilitation services.
