17 hospitals in Budapest renovated in record time

The renovation of 17 Budapest hospitals was carried out by B+N Referencia Zrt. in a record of 546 days between September 2020 and March 2022. The energy and aesthetic renovation works of the 200 buildings covered 300,000 sqm.

In 2020, the Hungarian government decided on the renovation of state-run, publicly funded hospitals covered by the ‘Healthy Budapest’ programme. The cabinet’s determination is demonstrated by the fact that it has earmarked HUF 60 billion for the project, which it later increased by a further HUF 14.8 billion. The complex renovation work was carried out by B+N Reference Zrt.

Complex renovation works

The aim of the programme was to ensure that the hospitals meet the highest professional standards and the challenges of the 21st century. B+N’s staff met major professional and logistical challenges while carrying out energy and aesthetic renovation work on 300,000 square metres in 200 buildings in the 17 Budapest hospitals in 2 million man-hours between September 2020 and March 2022, in a record of 546 days.

The residents of the capital and the agglomeration can now recover in a European-standard environment in all 17 hospitals. The works covered a wide range of areas including painting, coating replacement, renovation of water blocks, heating systems and electrical networks, replacement of doors and windows, and construction of optical networks. The air duct network and the ventilation equipment of the operating rooms have been cleaned and renovated. In addition to internal works, some institutions also required external renovation. In the institutions involved in the project, decades of backlogs have been made up in record time, said the B+N representative, adding that by modernising energy management, hospitals can achieve significant annual savings.

The project fell during the period of the covid epidemic, so work had to be coordinated without interrupting the operation of hospitals and patient care.
