FM newsroom – plant management, facility operations. Mercedes-Benz is officially ready to open its new International Consolidation Centre (ICC) in Bischweier, Germany. Developed by Panattoni. The 130,000 sqm facility will streamline the carmaker’s global parts supply while setting new sustainability and logistics efficiency benchmarks.
A Strategic Supply Chain Hub
Mercedes-Benz officially opened the ICC on May 22, with representatives from Seifert Logistics, the facility’s operator, also attending. Panattoni informs that the centre consolidates, pre-assembles, and distributes parts from across southern and western Europe and manages around 440 truck movements daily at full capacity.
“The opening of the International Consolidation Center in Bischweier is a crucial step towards an even more efficient supply of our global production network. By consolidating material flow, we reduce regional and interregional transport and strengthen the robustness of our supply chain. At the same time, the ICC meets the highest environmental standards and contributes to our sustainable business strategy. I am very pleased that we can celebrate this milestone just under one year after the groundbreaking,” said Elke Pusskeiler, Vice President of Supply Chain Management at Mercedes-Benz AG.
The facility will employ approximately 500 people directly.
Sustainability at the Core
The ICC stands on the site of the former Kronospan chipboard factory, a brownfield redevelopment project that reused 250,000 tons of demolition materials. It features an 80,000 sqm rooftop solar installation and utilises heat pumps for climate control. Mercedes-Benz and Panattoni are pursuing DGNB Platinum certification from the German Association for Sustainable Construction, reflecting their high sustainability standards.
Mercedes-Benz also focuses on green transport, partnering with logistics providers to use electric trucks for deliveries to and from the ICC. These e-trucks can recharge on-site at three charging stations equipped with ten charging points. The initiative is part of the company’s broader strategy to reduce emissions across its logistics operations.
