FM newsroom – logistics, robotics. Online supermarket Kifli.hu has taken a bold step toward the future of e-commerce logistics with the opening of its new automated logistics centre in Biatorbágy. The €15 million investment combines advanced robotics, artificial intelligence, and sustainable design to deliver faster, greener and more efficient operations.

A Record-Breaking Investment

The new 16,500-square-metre facility marks the largest single investment in the history of Kifli.hu’s Czech parent company, the Rohlik Group. As the company informed MTI the expansion underscores the company’s commitment to scaling its Hungarian operations, meeting rising consumer demand, and expanding its delivery reach across the country.

Located in Biatorbágy, the site complements Kifli.hu’s existing warehouse in Budapest, which has now reached full capacity. Together, the two hubs will support faster delivery times and a wider assortment of goods for customers.

Where Robots Bring the Goods

At the heart of the new ‘smart warehouse’ are hundreds of autonomous robots operating within a highly automated storage and retrieval system spanning nearly 5,000 square metres. For about 80 % of stored products, the process has been reversed — instead of employees fetching goods, the goods come to them.

This innovation reduces walking time, accelerates order picking by up to three times, and minimises the risk of human error. Supported by AI-driven inventory management, the system ensures optimal use of resources and consistent service quality even during peak hours.

Designed for Efficiency and Sustainability

Kifli.hu’s new facility reflects the company’s broader sustainability goals. The warehouse integrates LED lighting, solar panels, high-performance insulation, and an energy-efficient refrigeration system. These features reduce the site’s carbon footprint and operational costs while ensuring reliable temperature control for perishable goods.

Expanding Reach Across Hungary

The company’s delivery network already serves around three million people — roughly 1.3 million households — primarily in Budapest and its surroundings. With the new Biatorbágy hub, Kifli.hu is extending coverage to the Bicske and Biatorbágy regions, adding a further 55,000 potential customers across some 24,000 households.

By November, the number of serviced settlements is expected to reach around 170, and by the end of next year, more than 200. The Budapest facility will continue serving the capital and eastern regions, while new expansion projects are being planned in the east of Hungary.

Kifli.hu’s new automated logistics centre demonstrates how intelligent facility design can merge efficiency, sustainability and scalability. For Hungary’s facility management sector, it represents more than just a warehouse — it’s a model for the next generation of smart, environmentally conscious industrial operations.
