FM newsroom – HR. Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) continues to hold its position as Hungary’s largest employer among companies that report monthly headcount figures. Public records show that nearly 50,000 people are employed across its two entities.
Growing Companies
Outside of the state sector, B+N Referencia Zrt., a building cleaning and facility management company, is steadily expanding. The firm added 316 employees between January and February 2025, bringing its total workforce to 14,217, according to a BBJ report citing MTI sources.
Shrinking Industries
Meanwhile, employment in Hungary’s automotive sector is facing headwinds. Audi reduced its workforce by 170 jobs in just one month, while major suppliers also posted declines: Thyssenkrupp Components cut 316 positions, Continental shed 75, and Jabil laid off 100 employees.
BMW in Debrecen stands out as an exception. As the plant gears up for series production, it added 191 new employees, reaching a total staff count of 2,613 in February.
Job cuts also affected the battery manufacturing industry. Samsung SDI’s plant in Göd, located 30 kilometres north of Budapest, trimmed its workforce by 234. Meanwhile, SK On’s facilities in Iváncsa and Komárom recorded a combined reduction of 99 jobs.
