Hospital Park Revitalised with Drought-Tolerant Trees and a Flower Garden

FM newsroom – corporate news, sustainability, gardening. The South Pest Central Hospital, Porsche Hungaria, and B+N Referencia Zrt. have jointly revitalised the environment surrounding the Oncology Rehabilitation Department of the hospital. Based on the professional landscape design created by the horticultural division of B+N Referencia Zrt., volunteers planted native, drought-tolerant trees and perennial flowers in the park. The goal of the garden renovation was to create a sustainable green space that not only offers aesthetic value but also actively supports patient recovery.

Thanks to the collaboration between Porsche Hungaria, B+N Referencia Zrt., and the hospital, the garden of the Oncology Rehabilitation Department underwent a significant transformation. The aim was to establish an attractive green area that aids both the physical and mental recovery of patients. Volunteers from the two companies and the hospital carried out the initiative with support from horticultural experts of B+N Referencia Zrt.

Sustainable Approach – Plans Designed by B+N’s Gardening Division

The plan prepared by the gardening, landscaping and forestry division of B+N Referencia Zrt. focused on creating a long-term, low-maintenance green space. The development included planting 20 native trees, including plane, hawthorn and small-leaved lime, and an ornamental plant garden, taking into account the existing mature trees in the area. An essential aspect of the design was the selection of drought-tolerant, highly resistant tree species and perennial plants – such as thyme, catnip, purple coneflower, and bellflower – which fit the operating possibilities of the institution due to their minimal maintenance requirements.

“In the case of a hospital garden, sustainability is a primary consideration. We selected species well-suited to urban climates and can endure drier periods, ensuring that the newly created green space remains aesthetically pleasing in the long term due to its low maintenance needs. Being close to nature can play an important role in healing, so we are especially pleased to support such a worthy cause with our expertise,” said Máté Balogh, Senior Project Manager of the gardening, landscaping and forestry division.

Volunteers from Porsche Hungaria and the hospital planted perennial and woody plants, watered, staked trees, spread pine bark mulch, and sowed grass seed. From B+N Referencia Zrt., seven gardeners and two horticultural engineers provided on-site professional guidance and physical assistance. Additionally, B+N supplied nearly four million forints worth of plant stock, essential tools, as well as soil preparation and waste removal services necessary for implementation. Porsche Hungaria contributed an additional one million forints in financial support to ensure the project’s success.
